Turkmenistan, c. 238 x 197 cm, mid-19th century. Only a small group of Ersari rugs is known in which the field is divided into chequered sections. Schürmann (1969) rightly calls a similar item illustrated under no. 43 a “tarantula” Beshir. In the typical colours of old carpets of the “Amudaria” area. Fully original side edges and kilim ends. A few old repairs. Corroded brown. Worn in places. (VP)
