Daniel Weil was born in Buenos Aires in 1953. An architect, industrial designer and former professor of industrial design at the Royal College of Art, over the last four decades he has developed products, interiors, packaging and designs for a wide range of clients including Swatch, Lego, Krug, Superga, Benetton, Aldo, United Airlines, One & Only Resorts, the Savoy Hotel and the Dorchester in London. In 2013 Daniel Weil designed and directed the World Chess Candidates Tournament, which was won by the current World Champion Magnus Carlsen. He then designed the official chess set of the World Chess Organization (FIDE), which was used in the last two games in Mumbai and Sochi between Carlsen and Anand. Many of his works are preserved in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, among others. With the 2014 exhibition ‘Time Machines: Daniel Weil and Art of Design’, the Design Museum celebrated Daniel’s career to date.
