A Pair of ‘D80’ Armchairs ‘Fauteuil de Grand Repos’, designed by Jean Prouvé, - Design

1930, manufactured by Tecta, Germany c. 1985, chromium plated steel and sheet steel, upholstered seat and manchettes covered with black leather, bolster covered with red-orange leather, forelegs with castors, height 95 cm, width 70 cm, depth 110 cm. (DRAX)

Based on the first preparatory sketch by Jean Prouvé in 1930, this model was developed, produced and distributed under licence from Tecta in the mid-1980s. Its first prototypes and elevation drawings are preserved in the Kragstuhlmuseum and the Jean Prouvé Archive in Lauenförde. These two armchairs are examples from the first series, in which the side panels were welded to the armrest brackets and not - as in later series production - visibly screwed together.
