For a stylistically comparable drawing by Paolo Farinati see: Le Dessin à Verone, Exh. cat. Paris, Musée du Louvre, Cabinet des Dessins, 1993, Cat. 33. Despite the resemblances the depiction of the figures in the present sheet is less stylized.Therefore the drawing can be attributed only to the circle of Farinati. The artist may have also been familiar with the late costume studies for “Oedipus Tyrannus” by Paolo Veronese of ca. 1585 (The J. Paul Getty Museum, New York, Inv. 91. GG.3).
