rectangular body with seated young lady in a magnificent dress, made of light blue brocade with golden flowers, tendrils and twigs, a pointed hat and red long tassel, flowers in the hair and a long plait with a pink bow, gold earrings, white pearl necklace in 3 rows with medallion pendant and gold jewellery at her décolleté, her arms resting on a drum with diverse decorations, she beats the drum with her fingers, signed Angele de Lagarde lower right, picture plate 30 x 20 cm, with frame 60 x 51.5 cm, the latter with damaged areas

II, pp. 35–36; Angele de Lagarde, porcelain painter, born in Limoges, studied under Mme Barathon and Mme Dalpeyrat, Limoges, avenue de Toulouse 24, participated in the Salons de Paris with the following paintings on porcelain: 'Chloe á la fontaine' after Vasselot; 'Le Puits qui parle' after Vely, Salon 1877, 'Cephale enleve par l'Aurore' after F. Lemoine; 'Ariadne' after A. Millet, Salon 1878, 'Reverie d'enfant' after Chabrie, Salon 1879; The sitter could be a Georgian lady, an actress or musician, as suggested by her coquettish pointed hat. Perhaps she played in Tbilisi at the theater or other cultural establishments.
