Iran, c. 67 x 138 cm and c. 62 x 129 cm, end of the 19th century. It is unclear why these two curious rugs were not completely finished. Probably the client was unable to pay the weavers according to the progress of their work. In order to be use the pieces anyway, they were surrounded in each case with a secondary border. Made with the finest wool quality, on cotton warp. Each with a repiled section at one end (crease), in good condition. (VP)
