The Austrian coat of arms Service was kept by Archduchess Sophie for her private use. Unlike other services in use by the Imperial Family, it bears the Austrian, as opposed to the archducal coat of arms. Theservice was made in 1831 by the Viennese Court goldsmith Stephan Mayerhofer and pieces were constantly added and replaced. After Archduchess Sophie’s death in 1872 the service was taken over by her son Emperor Francis Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth, for their private use. Various parts were therefore in use in the private imperial households and villas, especially in Bad Ischl.
