The portrait of the Count is inscribed on the reverse (incorrectly transferred from the original canvas): Johann Weikhart/des H. Röm. Reichs Graf/von Gündler Frey. Count Spindler was married to Countess Leopoldine Kuefstein, who brought the Upper Austrian dominions of Weidenholz and Waikhartsberg into the marriage. They were the parents of Count Johann Aloys Spindler and the grandparents of Count Leopold, after whom the Spindler family became extinct in the late 18th century.
