Hiroshige (1797-1858)
![Hiroshige (1797-1858) - Starožitnosti - Část 1 Hiroshige (1797-1858) - Starožitnosti - Část 1](/fileadmin/lot-images/39Q210923/normal/hiroshige-1797-1858-7336543.jpg)
Eijiriaus of the series: "Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi" (The 53 Stations of Tokaido), subtitle: Miho embo (View of Miho, in a red cartouche left of the title), nishiki-e, signed Hiroshige ga, publisher's seal: Hoeido, censor seal kiwame, dated c. 1832. In Gordon Friese’s opinion, the present sheet made available to him as a photograph is part of the famous Hoeido-Tokaido series and was printed from the original woodblocks. Characteristic features are an interruption in the left border line at the height of the sky and the upper border line on the left above the publisher's seal. There are prints with partly blue mountains (as in the present case) and partly grey mountains. The mountain is called Ashitaka. In the middle ground, a sandbank covered with pine trees is visible. Later prints than the one discussed here, with grey mountains, show an interruption in the subtitle cartouche and sometimes a missing bokashi in front of the house roofs. The left and right outer margins have been supplemented, with the loss of the kiwame seal. The colour scheme is largely the same as in early prints. The colours are only very slightly faded. The print suggests that it is not an early impression. The subtitle cartouche is barely legible. Fine lines are squashed or interrupted. A small error can be seen in the sheet in front of the foremost of the small boats on the left. The paper is folded vertically. The overall condition is still neat, with full margins, traces of glue to the upper corners at the back, centrefold reinforced at the back, slightly stained, 34.3 x 36.7 cm, mounted,(CT)
