Uzbekistan, c. 255 x 220 cm, 19th century. This large, six-panel suzani comes from Pskent, a city in northeastern Uzbekistan that once belonged to the Emirate of Kokand. The red ground is completely embroidered. The circular motif characteristic of its region of origin is called "Paliak" (moon), the design is referred to as "Oi Paliak" (moonlit sky). It consists of round flowers with broad golden contours varying in size and inner motif. The core of the composition is the round flower at its centre. Very good condition. (VP)
