Central Caucasus, c. 420 x 103 cm, end of the 19th century, Zaqatala carpets are manufactured in the eponymous region in northwest Azerbaijan; little research has hitherto been conducted on these carpets and the denomination of their group is only a few decades old; coarse knotting with heavy feel and a frugal pattern are amongst the distinguishing features of this group; the present piece displays a rare runner format with partly low pile.
