Hiroshige (1797-1858)

Hiroshige (1797-1858) - Asijské umění

Hamamatsu, meisho zazanza no matsu (The Murmuring Pines of Hamamatsu), sheet no. 30 from the series: "Gojusan tsugi meisho zue" (53 Famous Views of Tokaido, also called the Vertical Tokaido), nishiki-e, signed: Hiroshige hitsu, publisher Tsutaya Kichizo (Koeido), date and censorship seal aratame seal (hare 7=1855). The series from which this print is taken depicts the site of the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate, Ieyasu, which ended in 1867. In Gordon Friese’s opinion, the present sheet made available to him as a photograph was printed from the original woodblocks (which can be seen, among other things, in the damage to the printing plate for the sky, which has a loss to the left above the horizon and hence did not print a small segment). The colours and applied printing techniques remained mostly unchanged in this motif. This print shows little change compared to the earliest impressions. Narrow unprinted stripes can be seen around the longitudinal cartouche, which are due to the shrinking of the woodblocks. The pattern in the kimono of the raised person is no longer reproduced in its entirety. Good colours and impression. The sheet is in good condition with full margins, a c. 1cm wide strip backed at the left margin on the reverse, slightly wavy and minimally stained, 36.7 x 24.5 cm,(CT)
