porcelain, cover and body with folds, narrow and wide gilt edges, openwork lattice and chain decor, wide edging with exquisitely painted gold leafy tendrils, cover with crown on cushion, the facing side and reverse with cartouches with coat of arms supported by amoretti, in small and large cartouches polychrome painted landscape with hunting parties, narrow fields with purple painted sea views, body with handles in the form of sculptural female busts with plumed ornament, on both sides 2 amoretti holding white cloth festoons and garlands of flowers, tiered gold base with gold-heightened rocailles and volute feet, the interior of the cover with polychromed Indian flowers and sprigs of leaves decorated in relief, body with gilt interior, height 22.5 cm, length 26 cm
underglaze blue crossed swords mark 1970–1980, designed by Johann Joachim Kändler 1738 (Ru)

Johann Joachim Kändler created the first so-called ‘Drüselkästchen’ (a container for small threads used in embroidery) in 1738 for Queen Maria Josepha, as a gift from her husband King Augustus III on the occasion of their fifth wedding anniversary.
