1941 Wurlitzer 850 „Peacock“
For 1941 Wurlitzer updated its jukebox range with the entry-level 750 and upscale 850 models. The fancy 850 also was also called the peacock, because two such beautiful birds decked out its richly ornamented front, one of Paul Fuller’s (1897-1951) best and most famous designs.
The 850 offered a selection of 24 shellac records (one side only) that were played at 78 rpm. With at height of 166 cm it is the tallest Wurlitzer ever built. Despite its only one year of production and its price tag of a hefty $464.50 more than 10,000 of these jukeboxes were built.
This example has visibly been restored and converted to 220V in the past and still presents itself in beautiful cosmetical condition. However, we have not tried if it works and therefore it will be strictly sold as is, without any guarantee for functionality.
