Sigmar Polke * - Současné umění II

(Oels/Lower Silesia 1942- 2010 Cologne)
Pavilion Biennale Venice, 1986, unique pieces, 4 gelatin silver prints, one with Agfa brand on the reverse, one signed and numbered 21A in pencil on the reverse, each ca. 24 x 30/30 x 24 cm, (4)

Frame on loan

One illustrated:
Sigmar Polke, Fotografien 70-80 AK Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen, May 27-September 2, 2018, p. 97 (there a xerography)

In the 1980s, Polke incorporated manipulative processes into his work, increasingly allowing the chemicals to unfold autonomously, in order to tell stories.

The photographs in the German Pavilion are normally double exposures of architecture and other elements.

It is known that Polke struggled with the history of the pavilion. Thus, here too, the double exposure can be interpreted as the artist’s critical commentary, whilst at the same time also preparing the alchemical element of his contribution.
