2021, set of 3 objets trouvé by the object artist Udo Breitenbach, various materials, including aluminium, three aluminum boxes with handle and hinged cover, with a ‘Red Cross’ sign (formerly first aid boxes) have been repurposed into ‘consolation stones’. In each of the boxes are paving stones, surrounded by moss, and a folding table. Dimensions of table: height c. 39 cm, width c. 100 cm, depth c. 50 cm. Dimensions of first aid box: width 2 x each c. 41 cm, 1 x c. 23 cm. (MHA)
The Aschaffenburg-based object artist Udo Breitenbach works with unusual found objects and uses them in a new context. ‘Speaking objects’ from which he reads history and stories, and which he interprets. The results are Dadaesque collages, assemblages or ready-mades. Dadaists opposed the madness of the First World War with ‘the absurd’ - ANTI ART as a creative act of despair. Udo Breitenbach sees himself as a post-Dadaist, who resorts to the language of Dadaism, whilst also dealing with the issues of our time. The present object deals with the pandemic and its effects in a post-Dadaist manner. “You don’t even know what real DADA tastes like because you use a DADA filter ‘art’. It is the only one that always delivers a meaningless din, is easy and thorough to clean while being easy to handle, uses the DADA completely and saves 30-40 percent DADA” (Udo Breitenbach, 2020). This is how Post-Dadaist Udo Breitenbach interprets historical Dadaism in one of his works.
