Albert Arnz studied privately with Oswald Achenbach, one of the most influential landscape painters in Europe during his lifetime. After marrying Achenbach's sister Julie, Arnz and Achenbach undertook a joint trip to Rome, Campania and Naples in 1857, which was to have a lasting influence on Arnz.
His atmospheric landscapes also reveal the hand of his former teacher and stand out for their effective treatment of light and colour as well as their attention to detail.
