The Belgian Jean-Joseph Chapuis lived from 1765 to 1864. The present model is the first design of a laminated and bent lightweight chair. Examples of this model, which represents a milestone in the history of design, are preserved in the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein or the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
