Christo (Javacheff Christo)
(born in Gabrovo, Bulgaria in 1935; lives and works in New York) “Wrapped Floors and Covered Windows, Project for Museum Würth, Künzelsau, Germany”, 1995, colour lithograph with collage of fabric, kraft paper and latex paint, signed by hand Christo, inscribed H. C. 1/20, besides the edition of 200 numbered prints, 76.9 x 65.9 cm, printed by La Pol¡grafa, Barcelona, framed, Schellmann 164, (EW)
Christo and Jean-Claude have created works that contradict all the usual market mechanisms. Their installations are temporary and in public spaces, they are not available for purchase and cannot be collected, nor is an entry fee ever levied. Only memories remain, in the form of photographs, sketches, graphics or films. The latter works can be collected and are testimony to the transient artworks of the artist couple. The sketches, collages and graphics of the projects served not only as plans and a first visualisation, but they also played a decisive role in the aesthetic development process. Last but not least, they were also used for the pre-financing of the projects.
