porcelain, cover and body with folds, narrow and wide gilt edges, segments with gold painted leafy tendrils on white ground, cover with crown on cushion, on the facing side and reverse cartouches with coat of arms, 4 reserves and 4 sculptural cartouches with miners at work, body with 2 rocaille handles and 4 feet, all with shells, height 15 cm, length 18.5 cm, cross restored, underglaze blue crossed swords mark, model by Johann Joachim Kändler, model no. 117 (Ru)

The present tureen was made after the model of a ‘Drüselkästchen’ for Maria Josefa of Austria, 1699-1757, wife of Augustus III of Poland, which was commissioned from Johann Joachim Kändler. This small tureen was used to store plucked gold and silver threads for embroidery and the like.
