The model series is known after the famous reseller Gondolo & Labouriau in Rio de Janeiro. Between 1872 and 1927, Patek Philippe maintained a very close business relationship with this company. The pocket watch with the inscription "Chronometro Gondolo" were designed specifically for this reseller. The name Gondolo became synonymous with these pocket watches.
