"Odes d'Horace", 1939/1958, 125 woodcuts on laid paper (vol. I with the watermark of the artist and of the publisher), in 2 volumes, no. 25 from the edition of 50 examples numbered in Roman numerals of the special edition with the additional suites of the woodcuts in black and red brown, each signed by the publisher in the printer’s mark, each suite signed by the publisher on the cover and with the artist’s monogram stamp, printed and published in 1958 by Philippe Gonin/Paris, vol. I: 52 loose double-page sheets (179 pages), vol. II: 74 loose double-page sheets (278 pages), volumes and suites in original covers and in 2 original half parchment covers, in 2 original slipcases, vol. II: the pages 186 and 191 with slight staining to the lower margin, cover spine slightly browned, slipcase damaged, (2), (RAC)
The woodcuts were originally planned for a publication of the Cranach Press by Harry Graf Kessler, which, however, was not realised. The Paris publisher Philippe Gonin took over the woodblocks, but the work was not completed until 1958.
