A. Worden, J. Irwin or D. Scott (Apollo 15)

Sunset over the lunar farside following trans Earth injection, with amazing lens flare effect, 26 July-7 August 1971

Vintage gelatin silver print on fiber-based paper, numbered"NASA AS15-95-12980" (NASA MSC) in black in top margin, 25,4 x 20,3 cm

This amazing view shows the lunar farside terminator over Schrödinger’s valley (long groove in the lunar surface the farside) at center right and the 132-km Crater Lyot (cut off at bottom) which is located along the southeastern limb of the Moon. Latitude/longitude: 54° S / 100° E.

“We turned around to take a look at the Moon, and that was one of the nicest views we had the whole trip - knowing that we were on the way home, and getting to see all the terminators from the Moon. We made a number of comments, that we recorded, on what we saw. It was quite obvious that we were going straight up. You could see the results of the burn immediately. There was no question that we had a significant change in our velocity.” David Scott (from the 1971 Technical Debrief at 224:05:05 GET in the AFJ mission transcript)
