Paul SORMANI (1817-1877) Paul Sormani founded his company in 1847, subsequently also taking over his brother's business in 1858. Above all, the extremely precise construction of his products, always made in oak, was rightly regarded as unsurpassed. In 1855, 1862 and 1867 Sormani participated in the World's Fairs in Paris and London, winning numerous awards and medals. The company was commercially very successful. Shortly before the founder's death in 1877, up to 300 craftsmen were employed on 10 rue Charlot. From 1877, the widow Ursule Marie Philippine and his son Paul-Charles continued the business under the name "Sormani Veuve et Fils". This lasted until 1914. In 1889, the company won the Grand Prix at the World's Fair in Paris.
