Gumpendorf Castle was probably built as a manor house in the 13th century. The castle complex was cut up during the construction of the Linienwall (1704). The last remnant of Gumpendorf castle, the Mollardschloss, was acquired by the painter Friedrich von Amerling in 1858. For this reason, it became henceforth known as the "Amerlingschlössl". In 1895, it had to make way for the construction of the light rail system. From: Wien Geschichte wiki
