Archduchess Sophie, Emperor Francis Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth - 4 oyster forks from the ‘coat of arms service’,
Archduchess Sophie, Emperor Francis Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth - 4 oyster forks from the ‘coat of arms service’,
silver, engraved Austrian coat of arms with archducal crown, length 15 cm, weight 134 g, master’s mark JV, Viennese Diana’s head mark 1872- 1922, (Lu)
The Austrian ‘coat of arms service’ was commissioned by Archduchess Sophie for her private use. Unlike the other services of the imperial family, the individual elements of this service were not decorated with the archducal coat of arms, but with the Austrian shield. The service was made in 1831 by the Viennese Court goldsmith Stephan Mayerhofer and pieces were constantly added and replaced. After Archduchess Sophie’s death in 1872 the service was taken over by her son Emperor Francis Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth, for their private use. Various parts were therefore in use in the private imperial households and villas, especially in Bad Ischl.
