A rare armchair, Eugène Printz,


France c. 1930, upholstered, sculptural black-stained wood frame construction on four legs, with slightly bent backrest, rounded armrests, the latter slightly concave in the front, the legs with arched side connections. The backrest and seat completely covered with light-coloured fabric. In restored condition with signs of age and use, scratches and abrasions, the cover / upholstery professionally replaced a long time ago. Dimensions: height c. 80 cm, width c. 50 cm, depth c. 80 cm. Paris-born Eugène Printz (1889 - 1948) was a French interior decorator and furniture designer. Printz worked in his father›s workshop on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine in Paris. Later he set up his workshop on 12 rue Saint Bernard in Paris, where he made cabinets, carpets, drawings and paintings. In 1930, he designed the interior of the boudoir of the Princesse de la Tour d›Auvergne in the Château de Grosbois, the private office of Jeanne Lanvin, the reception salon of Field Marshal Lyautey and the interior of the Musée de la France d›Outre-Mer on the occasion of the Paris ‹Exposition Coloniale› in 1931. He later opened his own gallery on 81 rue de Miromesnil in Paris. Further commissions followed in Great Britain, Belgium, the USA and Mexico. Shortly before the beginning of World War II, Eugene Printz, Jules Leleu and René Prou, among others, founded the group Décor de France. After the war, his Eugene Printz furniture was produced in a limited edition.
