"Transition rug", Entwurf Kosmos Project - Design

(Ewa Bochen & Maciej Jelski), Polen 2014, ausgeführt von polnischen Handwerkern, polnische Wolle, handgewebt, handgefärbt, Lederetikette: Kosmos Project sowie Logo, 130 x 180 cm. (DRAX)

The rug from "Transition" collection is a double cloth hand woven from polish wool by traditional craftsman. Traditionally double cloth is two colored, in this case it has addition of the third color - galactic purple that forms the gradient. The pattern on the textile is primitive and connected to nature while the outer pattern is connected to human civilization, robots, star wars. The textile is in holy green patterned in moss green.
The idea behind the project was to create very traditional rug showing the evolution of our civilization from the ancient rituals to very sophisticated gains of civilization.

"Kosmos Project is a design studio set up by Ewa Bochen and Maciej Jelski. In philosophy, cosmos is an orderly or harmonious system, the opposite of chaos. That's where the name of the group originates. Kosmos Project's inspiration comes from observation of relationship between the civilized and the wild. Designers believe that this two separate world can coexists harmoniously. Their design approach is built on conviction that our environment determines our attitudes. From this point of view the way we create design objects is very important. Things that surrounds us have great impact on our behavior and relations. It doesn't only concern the physical part of our being, but also and maybe mainly the mental aspect. Designers strongly believe that modern design needs to focus on human spirituality as the way to break with dehumanized life. Each project is meticulously thought through, with great care and attention to concept, material, proportions." (Kosmos Project)
