After studying at the Glassmaking Secondary School in Kamenický Šenov, Jiří Šuhájek continued his studies under prof. Kaplický at the VŠUP in Prague. Upon finishing his studies in Czechoslovakia, he spent three years at the Royal College of Art in London. Upon his return, he worked during the 1970s as a core designer at the Moser Glassworks. He designed many interesting vase designs for the glassworks, which sold them successfully for many years. Besides vases, he made zoomorphic and figurative sculptures that were made in the Moser Glassworks as studio creations. In the 1980s, the author developed the motif of a human form made by blowing. His larger-than-life female figures are known throughout the world. He not only designs the figures, but he also blows them himself at the glassworks.
