The vase on offer, Trends, was designed as a unique piece for this auction. It combines within itself René Roubíček’s top freelance art and the mastery of the Moser glassmakers.
René Roubíček graduated in 1950 from the AAAD in Prague. He studied in prof. Kaplický’s studio. After his early work, in which he focused on decoratively cutting vases, he became a freelance artist and he created a monumental object for EXPO 58 in Brussels, for which he won the Grand Prix. It was an abstract composition out of individual pieces of colored, thickly modeled glass, which is fastened to a steel load-bearing structure. Colored, thickly modeled glass became the leitmotif of his work.
The author collaborated with Moser Glassworks in the 1950s, when he designed a collection of thick-walled cut objects. The collaboration that continues to this day dates back to this time.
