- used during World War II by British paratroopers
- dropped with its own parachute fastened to the wheels so it fell upside-down - more than 60,000 were produced
- specialist were employed to advise troops on unfolding
- served in historic moments like the D-Day landings and the failing operation Market Garden to take the bridges on the Rhine
- on impact with the ground, the seat rammed into the seat tube and the handlebars pushed into the steering tube helping to absorb the impact
- an ingenious, simple and effective solution
- very robust and heavy by modern standards
