literature
Jan Fišar Glas, Glasgalerie Hittfeld, 2006, p. 31 – in color

After studying at the Glassmaking Secondary School in Prague, he attended the sculpture studio of prof. Josef Wagner at the AAAD in Prague, where he graduated in 1959. He has been working with glass since 1966, when he was asked by Stanislav Libenský to collaborate on the world fair in Montreal. In the late 1960s he worked as a designer in the glassworks in Železný Brod. His most famous architectural work – the roof of the main healing spring in the colonnade in Karlovy Vary was realized during this period. The author’s installation from 1987, Return to Vojanovy sady, is legendary. He created his glass works primarily using the technique of fused sculpture and shaping flat glass in a kiln.
The 1990s were the height of the author’s career. He learned the original technique of creating sculptures that reveal his sensitivity as a sculptor. In a kiln, he blew large glass cylinders that he then cut and kiln-shaped (flattened) into the desired shapes full of rounded curves. He assembled multi-figure compositions out of these sculptures fixed onto metal trays. Thus he created unique sculptures full of energy and movement.
The work on offer, Controversy, is a gallery example of this artistic approach. Jan Fišar’s work is highly regarded primarily in Germany, where he is represented by the Eliška Stölting’s Glasgalerie Hittfeld. Thanks to her gallery, his work is now known throughout the world. His work is displayed in prestigious glass museums worldwide.
