DR Kongo. Holz, H: 33 cm. Diese bedeutende Statue stellt eine Frau von hohem Sozialstatus dar, wohl eine Priesterin bzw. ein Häuptling, auf Grund der runden „imwu“-Frisur mit zwei Haarknoten. Die feinen kleinteiligen Narben-Tätowierungen auf dem Oberkörper sind sowohl für die Teke als auch für die Bembe charakteristisch. Die zarten auf den Knien ruhenden Hände, der feierliche Ausdruck, die breiten Schultern verleihen dieser Figur große Autorität. Der Hohlraum an der Seite des Bauchs war mit kraftgebenden magischen Ingredienzien („Bonga“) gefüllt. (VJ)
