[…] At that time, Paolo was obsessed with the harmony (the music, according to him) of holes. He perforated canvases with iron dies to create perfect holes and had invented a special technique to curl the edges towards the inside. When the holes were ready, he painted everything in a single colour, which at times was red, at other times black, blue, or orange. I never saw him make green holes, and I never asked him why.
