The dimensions: 47 x 55 cm individual sheets, 25 sheets in total.

Condition:
The map is complete. The individual sheets are reinforced with canvas and they are in good condition, the map is provided in its original leather box.

Müller’s map is considered to be the most costly and the largest work of old cartography that has been created by an individual. Müller obtained official permission for the mapping of Bohemia on the 4th May 1712 in the form of an Imperial patent. The actual mapping was initiated in 1712 and was completed in November 1717. The individual maps of the regions were submitted to the regional commissioners for their review. At the beginning of 1720 a final drawing of the entire map was submitted to the Estates Committee, which, without delay, took care of its engraving. This was an extensive and demanding task and no one was found in Bohemia who had the capacity to do this. Therefore the Augsburg engraver Michal Kauffer was invited to Prague where he was requested to make an overview sheet and 25 sections of a larger map. Müller did not live to see the publication of his map; he died during the preparations for mapping of Silesia on the 21st June 1721. Army Engineer Jan Wolfgang Wieland was charged to make corrections to the prints of the remaining plates. The map was completed in 1722. The combining of the 25 sections creates an impressive image that has corners that are decorated with engravings that were designed by the Czech painter Václav Vavřinec Reiner. The decorative features were created by the Augsburg engraver Johann Daniel Herz. Thanks to Reiner’s work Müller’s map belongs amongst the richest and in terms of art the highest quality decorated maps of the 18th century. The Czech crest is located at the top on the left side, while the top right shows a view of Prague and on the bottom left there are explanatory notes and on the bottom right is the printed title of the map. Müller’s map is set in a frame, which is based on a rectangular grid with a 50 parallel that is preserved lengthwise; while the map was actually provided with this frame at a later date. The important feature of the map is the splitting of the country into the 12 regions that were first introduced in 1714. Their approximate assessment was obtained by using the cartometric method.
