Chest of drawers in Transition revival style, - Works of Art

France circa 1870/80. Made in oak with tulipwood and rosewood veneer, decorated with marquetry panels and circular ornament in various fine woods, with 3 drawers with elegant serpentine fronts, the lower 2 being sans traverse, the top drawer with an incorporated bronze frieze. The piece bears a stamp on the back left support GROHE A PARIS (Guillaume Grohe 1808-1885). With a moulded marble top (Breche d'Alep), and finely chased gilt bronze mounts. 94 x 135 x 55 cm. In professionally restored condition. (MIN)

A high quality piece by the cabinet maker Guillaume Grohe, one of the most important cabinet makers of the Napoleon III period. It was modelled on a chest of drawers by Pierre Denirot from the 18th century.
