Jacob de Heusch

Jacob de Heusch - Old Master Paintings

(Utrecht 1657–1701 Amsterdam)
Horsemen and washerwomen at a well near an antique aqueduct,
signed lower left: Heusch f.,
oil on panel, 32.2 x 39.8 cm, framed

De Heusch, who had been trained by his brother Willem, was first mentioned in January 1675 as a member of the Schildersbent, an association of Netherlandish painters in Rome. All of the Italian motifs in his compositions come from Rome and its environs. The artist received his commissions from Roman aristocratic families, including the Doria Pamphilij, the Falconieri, the Colonna, the Rospigliosi, and the Corsini, so that works by Jacob de Heusch can still be found in many Roman collections today. He returned to the Netherlands in 1699, where he died two years later.
