The format of a tondo shaped panel is relatively rare in the oeuvre of Joos de Momper. The rounded shape impacts the composition as far as that the scene provides the spectator a detail of an extensive mountainous landscape. De Momper built up his landscape by using a series of mountains, one after the other, in order to create depth. The balance of blue, green and yellow tones further underlines the impression of a landscape receding into the background.
