Three spoons, known as ‘sunu’, from western Timor. Carved from dark brown or black water buffalo horn. One of the three Timor spoons has a smooth handle. Two crocodiles are incised into its reverse. The second spoon displays typical Timor carving with images of birds and decorative engraving. The third, smaller spoon has an openwork handle with two s-shaped volutes and a highly abstract head at the top (a bird’s head?).
Length: 14.5 cm; 21.5 cm; 24 cm. First half of the 20th century. (ME)
