Mixed lot (4 pieces), Tibet and northwestern China: 2 Tibetan lighters with silver decoration and corals, an earring from Tibet, with a turquoise in a gold setting, and a bangle made of silver from northwestern China. - Tribal Art

1: Tibet: Two lighters, each with a slightly curved striking iron at the bottom, each in a leather pouch and mounted on a leather pouch (for the flint and kindling), and with a carrying hook made of engraved brass at the top, to enable the lighter to be attached to a belt. The larger of the two objects has a pouch made of red-dyed leather. There is a piece of sheet metal mounted to the front side, which was originally gilded (remains visible). In the centre this is topped by a red coral bead, set in a silver rosette, and below this and on both sides, this is surrounded by cast and embossed wave motifs made of silver.
Height: 10 cm; width: 14 cm. First half of the 20th century. The second, smaller but older lighter has a very old brown leather pouch. On its front side there is a small red coral bead set in a silver rosette, flanked on both sides by silver fish and surrounded by stylised flowers made of repoussé silver. The handle from which the lighter used to hang, and which is made of engraved brass, has broken off due to age and has holes.
Height: 8.5 cm; width: 14 cm. Between the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

2: Tibet: an earring for a man. A thin spike of iron twists to form a circle at the top. A pierced green turquoise stone is set in the middle of its lower, longer, straight end. The turquoise is flanked both above and below by a total of five silver rings, four of which feature detailed embossing and gilding. Continuing downwards, the earring begins to spiral, finishing with a round eyelet made of iron. A very old piece, but without appreciable damage.
Height: 12 cm. Probably 19th century.

3: China: a solid bangle cast in very high-quality silver using the waste mould technique; it is therefore relatively heavy. In typical Chinese style, with slightly flattened sides with ends that almost touch depicting highly abstract dragon heads. The exterior displays deep, subsequently engraved relief with stylised floral, leafy tendrils. The bangle is engraved with linear geometric patterns on both sides and close to both ends. On the inside, underneath the ends, there are two master craftsman hallmarks with Chinese characters. An extremely beautiful object, without any damage.
Diameter: 9.8 cm x 8.3 cm (outside); 6.5 cm x 5.6 cm (inside). First half of the 20th century. (ME)

Provenance: Austrian private collection.
