India: a silver belt.
An attractive typical ornamental belt made of high-quality silver, known as a ‘Hyderabad belt’. Made of two hanks of finely woven silver wire, held together with silver clamps. With a broad fastener at the front, made of five movable, attractively decorated elements held together by a hinge. These components were cast in silver separately. With a central screw closure (n.b.: opens with inverse, English-style screw threads). In perfect condition, no damage.
Length: 75 cm (the belt open). Between c. 1900 and the first third of the 20th century. (ME)
