A child’s dress from the Tekke Turkmens. From the three neighbouring countries of Turkmenistan, Iran and Afghanistan. Sewn from blue, red and green cotton. Embellished with two typical Tekke ornaments on the blue section at the front, under the shoulders: characteristic curved shapes cut from silver and engraved. The empty spaces are fire-gilded and each is set with three red glass stones. In addition, there are four round repoussé ornamental discs made of silver alloy. Underneath, there are two brightly embroidered triangular amulets made of fabric, as well as many colourful tassels with small black and white glass beads. On the reverse there are also four round repoussé discs made of silver alloy, two embroidered triangular amulets made of fabric and many colourful tassels (as on the front).
Dimensions: c. 53 cm x 48 cm. First half of the 20th century. (ME)
