Two amulet pendants, one smaller and vertical, the other larger and horizontal. Probably part of a larger silver collier necklace (bridal jewellery). Both objects are attractively decorated on the front side: with filigree silver spheres, lines of spheres, and with silver lozenges, rosettes and spirals made of silver wire soldered on. Each has two likewise decorated hangers made of silver. The lateral surfaces and reverse are smooth and only feature minimal decoration. One lateral side on each has been crafted with a pin fastening because the amulet pendants are hollow. People used to place written amulets (Qur’anic surahs or ‘magic squares’ written on paper) inside.
Made entirely of high-quality silver. No significant damage.
Dimensions: c. 5.5 cm x 4.2 cm (small); c. 8 cm x 8.3 cm (large). Weight: 170 g (in total). First half of the 20th century. (ME)
Provenance: German private collection.
