Mixed lot (3 items), Tuareg, Sahara: three Tuareg necklaces with typical pendants made of silver alloy. - Tribal Art

Three necklaces with pendants in the typical style of the Tuareg nomads, who live in the Saraha region, which stretches from southern Morocco to Algeria and Mali. One pendant displays a rare, wide form of the so-called ‘Agadez cross’ decorated with openwork and engraving. The two other pendants have a large ring at the top, two small rings to the side of each, and a point at the bottom of each. The lower pointed section on the smaller pendant is made of red glass. All three pendants are cast of silver alloy and engraved with attractive patterns typical of the Tuareg. The reverse of all three pendants bears engraved inscriptions in the Tuareg language, known as ‘Tifinagh’.
The chains are made of black glass beads, interspersed with chain links made of silver alloy and stone beads. Two of the three necklaces have hook-and-eye clasps. Length: 40 cm, 28 cm, 26.8 cm (chains with pendants). First third of the 20th century. (ME)
