Luba-Hemba, Dem. Rep. of Congo: a small caryatid stool, with a female figure.
A typical caryatid stool, with round seat and base plate, and a standing female figure as caryatid. The woman shows a characteristic, broadly backward-sweeping hairstyle of the Luba-Hemba. A small hole to the base plate, otherwise no significant damage. Good usage patina overall.
Height: c. 24.5 cm; diameter: c. 19 cm (the seat). First half of the 20th century. (ME)
Provenance: Galerie Roger Le Fevre, Brussels; currently: Austrian private collection.
