A staff of dignity (a chief’s staff?), carved from wood and dyed black. With a large, expressive head carved out from the same piece in its upper section, and decorated in all-round relief below the neck. From the Bangwa in the grasslands of Cameroon (north-west Cameroon). The present piece shows a thick, shiny and encrusted usage patina that is typical for old objects from Cameroon. No damage.
Height: c. 155 cm. First half of the 20th century. (ME)
