The Koro in northern Nigeria use such double vessels for ceremonial palm wine drinking, and for sacred offerings of palm oil and wine. The ritual beaker is with combined with a female figure. All carved from a single piece of hard wood. The head of the woman wears a high, pierced crested coiffure. Her right arm hangs free below, with bangle and upper arm ornament. Her left arm, with bangle, holds an object at shoulder height. A linear relief band runs across the flat chest, above her small, pointed breasts. Linear, geometric, partly black-dyed reliefs also decorate the flat back. Two small cracks to the double beaker above and below. A rare object with good, old usage patina.
