Gurunsi or Ashanti (?), Ghana: an old, standing, male figure, representing a helping or protective spirit. A very old, standing male figure, with slightly protruding shoulders. Originating from northern Ghana, it should depict a helping or protective spirit. Carved from hard wood, and stylistically difficult to assign (Lobi, Gurunsi or Ashanti?). With old breaks (nose and both feet). Yet with a notable, very old, shiny patina as a result of protracted use.
Height: 45 cm. Between c. 1900 and the first third of the 20th century. (ME)
