A figure of the Dogon, from the Bandiagara Escarpment in the east of Mali. Made of hard, heavy wood, very eroded and fragmentary due to age and weathering. Based on the still visible proportions of the sculpture, it was originally carved in the Tintam, Mandé or N’duleri style. With a thick, encrusted sacrificial patina, due to many years of sacrificial offerings with millet gruel and similar stuff.
