In the 1740s, the still life painter Johann Martin Metz was in the service of Prince-elector Clemens August of Bavaria in Bonn. Later on, the artist lived in Cologne, where he founded a private painting school for “Figures, Landscapes, Flowers and Fruit and for Embroidery”.
